Summary Of The Book

The Secret Of Leadership: Stories To Awaken, Inspire And Unleash The Leader Within

This book is filled with parables that illustrate important leadership lessons. Iyer says that people can learn something valuable from an item as simple as a tea bag. Just like any tea bag, a leader’s true value and strength is understood only when he or she is dipped in hot water. The Secret Of Leadership: Stories To Awaken, Inspire, And Unleash The Leader Within also speaks about the author’s driver and Abraham Lincoln. An interesting example in this self-help guide is the parallel drawn between footballers and people working in the corporate world. It has been proven on the football field that players who use both their feet achieve much more than those who use only one. Similarly, in the corporate environment, a person is more likely to succeed if he has two skill sets instead of one, just like the footballers who use both feet.

The book then shifts its focus to the animal world, and tells the tale of a bunch of frogs who decide to climb up a television tower. Through this example, the author sheds light on the importance of self-belief and learning how not to let cynics affect one’s confidence. Readers will also get to learn about a mother giraffe who kicks her newborn baby. Though it may sound shocking, this technique helps the young animal learn how to stand quickly, and understand that the world is a tough place.

'Many lands saw Zarathustra, and many peoples: no greater power did Zarathustra find on earth than the creations of the loving ones-""good"" and

""bad"" are their names.' After spending a decade in a cave on the mountains, the prophet Zarathustra comes down and begins talking to people. He believes that God is dead, and preaches about the Superman who has surpassed the notions of good and evil and embraced the idea of eternal recurrence. Reflecting on the Nietzschean philosophy, Zarathustra's sermons and discourses expound the concepts of will to power, the Übermensch (Superman), eternal return, radical perspectivism, problem of nihilism, and individualism among others. One of the most influential and popular works of Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra was an inspiration for many. Intense and insightful, this philosophical novel remains a literary masterpiece.

About the Author

Born to Carl Ludwig Nietzsche and Franziska Oehler on 15 October 1844, Friedrich Nietzsche was brought up in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. He joined the University of Bonn to study theology and classical philology, soon after completing his graduation in 1864. Between 1870 and 1871, during the Franco-Prussian War, he served as a medical orderly in the Prussian forces. His first work, The Birth of Tragedy, was a work of dramatic theory. It was published in 1872. Nietzsche's philosophical novel called Thus Spoke Zarathustra was written between 1883 and 1885. The novel contains the dictum which appeared in The Gay Science-'God is dead'. Though Nietzsche's works did not sell much when they were published, Beyond Good and Evil is considered one of the greatest books. Nietzsche suffered severe mental disorder in January 1889. After subsequent deterioration in his health, he died on 25 August 1900. A great thinker, Nietzsche is remembered as one of the greatest German philosophers, and his works continue to remain powerful and influential.
